GOST 31947-2012
New standard for installation wires and cables
GOST 31947-2012 compared with GOST 6323-79 introduced the following new requirements:
- Wires with aluminum conductors are excluded. Conducting conductors are made only from copper wire (tinned and not tinned).
- Cables with a conductor core cross section of 0.75-50 mm² are included. The number of lived in the cables - 2,3,4,5.
- The range of conductor cores has been extended:
- for single-core wires from 0.5 to 400 mm²;
- two-, three-core wires from 0.75 to 4.0 mm².
- Conductive conductors for flexibility can be:
- not requiring increased flexibility (1 class up to 10mm², 2 classes over 10mm²);
- increased flexibility (grade 5).
- The design of stranded wires and cables should be as follows:
- flat - for wires;
- round - for cables.
- Main conductors, grounding conductors for wires and cables, and zero conductor cables must have the same cross section . Allowed in three-, four- and five-core cables with a nominal cross-section of the main conductors of 25mm2 and above, the grounding conductor of a smaller section in accordance with Table 3.
- A color marking system has been introduced for the purpose of identifying them (the preferred color scheme is shown in Table 4):
- Coloring should be solid.
- It is not recommended to use red and white colors.
- Compulsory presence of filling the outer gaps between the twisted insulated conductors, including in the form of an extruded inner sheath, to make the cables and wires almost round or flat.
- The absence of a sheath in a single conductor is allowed.
- The coloring of the shell is not normalized.
- A requirement has been introduced for a minimum mass of one meter of a conductive core, in order to exclude the possibility of supplying cables with a reduced cross-section of conductive cores
- The permissible current loads for wires and cables are given.
- Fire safety requirements have been entered. Low-risk fire cables and cables were introduced that do not emit corrosive-active products and with low toxicity.

Cable product designation:
Cables and wires are divided into the following features:
- by product type:
- installation wire ( Pu );
- installation cable ( Ku );
- by flexibility:
- for installation and operation conditions that do not require increased flexibility ( without designation );
- requiring increased flexibility ( G ),
- by type of insulation material and sheath:
- polyvinyl chloride plastics, including low fire hazard and heat resistant ( B );
- halogen free polymer compositions ( P ).
- for performance in terms of fire safety indicators:
- non-flammable with single laying ( without designation );
- non-flammable during group laying, with reduced smoke and gas emission - ng (A, B, C, D) -LS
- non-propagating combustion in group laying, with reduced smoke and gas emission, with low toxicity of combustion products - ng (A, B, C, D) -LSLTx ;
- non-flammable during group laying and not emitting corrosive gaseous products during combustion and smoldering - ng (A, B, C, D) -HF ;
- non-propagating combustion during group laying and not emitting corrosive gaseous products during combustion and smoldering, with low toxicity of combustion products - ng (A, B, C, D) -HFLTx .
Examples of legend:
Installation wire that does not require increased flexibility with PVC insulation with one core with a nominal cross section of 2.5 mm², without a sheath - wire PuV 1 × 2.5
Installation cable requiring increased flexibility with PVC insulation and sheath, with reduced smoke and gas emission, does not propagate combustion in category A, with three main and zero conductors with a nominal cross section of 25 mm² and a ground conductor with a nominal cross section of 16 mm² - cable КУВВнг (A) -LS 4 × 25 (N) + 1 × 16 (PE)
